Soul and Wing, Book One

This page is about the published novel itself — not an in-universe lore article. No spoiler warnings apply; this is exactly what you'd read on the back cover or the Amazon listing.
What happens when the wrong girl gets the right power?
Lia has always been the odd one out. She lives in an Imperial Palace, but wears the dull grey robes of a failed magic student. Surrounded by power — she just doesn't seem to have any of her own.
Until one day, she does. Spectacularly. Accidentally. And in front of entirely the wrong people.
"Never — NEVER — have I heard of a wingless woman possessing it."
Suddenly Lia is shipped off to a world in the clouds — a kingdom of the Celestials, winged beings who are elegant, ancient, and more than a little bit snooty about humans. To them, she is a puzzle.
Enter Prince Kyrian — clever, cool, and convinced Lia is basically a science experiment. He's not exactly welcoming. But he is paying very close attention.

Wingless in the Sky is Book One of Soul and Wing, an epic romantic fantasy series set across two worlds: the sun-drenched Imperial city of Maritana, ruled by Empress Maren De Valoren, and the breathtaking floating realm of the Highfolk — a sky civilisation of winged beings who command ancient heart magic from cities suspended above the clouds.
Start here first: Close to the Sun — a free prequel short story following Empress Maren, set in Maritana before everything changed. The perfect entry point into the world before Book One.
Coming next: The Love That Ruins Cities (Book Two) and The High and the Deep (Book Three) continue Lia and Kyrian's story as old alliances shatter, sky cities fall, and a bond forged in heart magic is tested like never before.
"The worldbuilding is amazing! It is genuinely fresh, not one more clone of popular titles."
— Daniella H., ARC reader
"One of the strongest fantasy debuts I've read in years."
— David, Goodreads
"The romance is a slow burn, just how I like it. Every moment between Lia and Prince Kyrian felt earned."
— CinBooks, Goodreads
"I delved into fantasy because of your book — I still love the characters I met, I even daydreamed about them."
— Kasyah, itsaperspective (Bookstagram)
I wrote Wingless in the Sky because I've always been drawn to the space between two worlds — that moment of standing at a border and not knowing which side will claim you. I've also always been a little obsessed with skies, clouds, and anything that flies — there's something about looking up that made a world of sky cities and winged nobility feel inevitable to write.
Lia doesn't belong among the Highfolk, and the Highfolk have never let her forget it. But this book was never just about wings, or who has them. It's about what we do when love asks us to risk everything we've built ourselves to be — and whether staying whole is even possible once someone else has a piece of your heart.
I hope you fall for this world the way I did while building it — for the sky cities and the politics that hide beneath them, for a slow burn that earns every step, and for characters who feel like they could walk off the page. This is the first book in the Soul and Wing series, and there's a lot more of this world still to come.
Thank you for picking this one up. I hope it finds you at exactly the right moment.

Lana Delmoure is a fantasy author with a passion for worlds that soar — literally. Drawn to stories of outsiders finding their footing in unfamiliar places, her writing blends lush world-building with sharp political intrigue and characters who feel deeply, messily real. Lana grew up near the sea, which perhaps explains her love for horizons — that feeling of standing at the edge of something vast and unknown. Wingless in the Sky is her debut novel.
